Hanukah

The Israeli artist ,Shraga Landesman, presents his work: The inspiration for my
work comes from several sources: the Bible, archaeological finds in Israel,
memories from childhood, and nature. We can see examples of these sources in
this ‘Trees Menorah’ or: ‘Garden of Eden’ Menorah. we see two trees: the tree of life
and the tree of knowledge. The antelope near the Tree of Life symbolizes the
material world. The bird by the Tree of Knowledge symbolizes the spiritual world.
The driving force behind this creation is the question as to why trees were created
on the sixth day, and not on the day the rest of the plants were created. In my
opinion, the answer lies in the text itself. The two verses dealing with the creation
of Man and the creation of trees on the sixth day are close together, and at the end
is written “to know good or bad”, which is, in fact, a major part of our lives. ‘Trees

‘Tree of life with Birds’ Menorah, For me, this menorah is a picture from childhood. I
grew up in a house near an orchard. I remember seeing a worker arriving in the
morning with his hoe and making a trench around the tree. He took a hose and
filled the trench with water, and the dry leaves floated on top. That was the system
for watering back then. ‘Tree of life with Birds’ Menorah is made fromAluminum

This ‘Sheeps Menorah’ represents two stylized sheep, one a ram, the other a
female, made from Patinated brass cast that stand in the glow of the Lights of the

“The inspiration for my work comes from several sources: the Bible, archeological finds in Israel, memories from
childhood, and nature. We can see examples of these sources in this ‘Kingfisher
Menorah’: This menorah is an expression of my observations of nature—especially
through photography of birds. When I’m asked why the bird is all alone on the
branch, without a mate, the answer is quite simple: that’s the way we see
kingfishers in the wild. They sit alone on a branch, hunting for food”. The

This ‘Herons menorah’ was designed by Israeli artist Shraga Landesman. In this
menorah we see a pair of herons sitting on a tree branch, a position of preparation
for the night. The ‘Herons Menorah’ is made from Patinated Brass cast.

This ‘Sabra menorah’ was designed by Israeli artist Shraga Landesman. This
menorah brings together two very dominant symbols of the eretz-Israeli nature; a
Sabra – the plant that Define the ‘Israeli’ chracter and the gazelle, one of the
beautiful animals in the eretz-Israeli desert. The ‘Sabra Menorah’ is made from
aluminium cast.

My inspiration in designing this menorah comes from small buildings scattered throughout the country, and according to tradition, tombs of the righteous are noted
